I mentioned last week that I am trying to lighten my hair a bit and shared some inspiration pics with you. Its been a year since I had colored my hair due to pregnancy so my natural hair color has grown out about half way down and the black dye remains strong on the other half! If you follow me on Instagram you saw that I was in the salon getting it done last week…
This was round two in the Salon. The first visit the top lightened perfectly but of course the black on the bottom didn’t lift as much as I had hoped. If any of you have had really dark or black hair you know how difficult it is to get that color to lift without causing crazy damage. Im in no rush and don’t want to fry my hair so its going to be a gradual process.
This pic is from last weekend and you can kind of see where I am going with the color! |
Im happy with it but its still not 100% to where I want it, so thats the reason for the delay on showing it to you ladies! Its a bit more even now but still a work in progress but I promise to post pics when its completely done!
If you go to Sally Beauty Supply and buy the Loreal Hilift for DARK HAIR ONLY, it will give you the exact color you want!!! I had very black hair and turned it into a very light red color with one application..they also have browns and blondes too and it works wonderfully.
what a cute little family — love those little arm rolls! xo

Oh my goodness Ava looks just like her daddy in this picture. Lightening dark hair is a process but once you get to the shade you want it's pretty easy to maintain. Your natural hair color totally suits you. I have naturally dark brown hair but it doesn't look good on me so I keep it light. I had super light hair as a child so I can pull it off.
She is starting to look SO much more like her daddy now!
smart to not damage hair! good luck!

Getting rid of my black was tough! It definitely took a couple tries to fully remove it and get it to the color I like. And I love that pic of the 3 of you!!
i love your color on you now Cheryl so pretty!!!
Better to go slooowly with lightening up dark hair. In high school, I tried to strip black dye out of my dark brown hair and ended up with orange and yellow spots. Good luck to you going the slow and safe route!
You are being smart in gradually doing it. I had to chop off my hair when I lightened it because the bottom half got really damaged. The second pic is too cute. Your daughter is delicious. That perfect little round head, oh how I miss my girls being that young. What is the blush color you wear in that second pic? I am always on the hunt for a pure peach blush but everything seems to turn into a pinkish color on me:(

I'm loving your new hair. When I had black hair it took 4 visits to the salon before I got the color I was wanting. It's definitely a challenge. And of course, your family pic is adorable! I love Ava's little rolls! So sweet.
Glad im not the only one who had to have multiple trips to the salon! Hoping next time will be a bit closer to where I want it!
Love the family photo! I had the same problem as you a couple years ago, but didn't take the time to get the perfect color. My hair was just too tortured. You are doing the smart thing and taking your time to get the color you want. Are you getting a cut as well?
thanks! I hope it turns out the way I hope! Its a little more red than I want right now and hoping we can even it out on my next trip in!
I agree that gradual is the way to go! You have such healthy looking hair and you don't want to damage it! Love your little family 🙂
Excited to see the final product, no matter what color it turns out, I'm sure no color can look bad on you. 🙂 hello redhead…

I love the family photo. Ava is like, why is mommy making that kissy face? And your husband's expression is like, yup this is my family!
🙂 thank you i love it too
Beautiful family photo and you look gorgeous in that salon photo! Your ring is stunning.
thanks Allison!
Your makeup always looks flawless!! I am considering doing my own makeup for my wedding, and would love to know what eyeshadow you are wearing in the picture where you are in the salon? Thanks so much!
thank you i know it is Mac saddle in the crease and Mac swiss chocolate in the outer corner. I will have to double check what the name of the one i used on the lid was. My makeup for my wedding was VERY similar to this look I'm wearing here as well.
