Alright ladies, let the home posts begin! Thank you girls who have all been so patiently awaiting new home posts. We moved in about 6 months ago and can finally say I feel like we’re almost done! There is still some styling to be done (and hopefully a full video home tour in the future), but for now, thought I would kick my Honeybee Home series off with some areas that are fully finished. Today I’m sharing a peek into my new makeup vanity section!
First, let me start by saying this section of the house came with its share of headaches but it’s now one of my favorite spaces in our new home. About half way through the design process, I realized we didn’t make a space in the bathroom for a makeup vanity. That was huge fail on my end as someone who loves to sit and do my hair and makeup.
We had drawn up his and her sinks but no space to sit or store my makeup (hubby is a neat freak and HATED seeing all my products across the counter in our old home) 😉 So you girls may remember from my “NEW HOME” highlights tab on my Instagram that we came up with an idea to build a tall built-in makeup vanity that also had stacked shelving that went up top of the wall (hit right before the open wood beams).
Well, as soon as they installed it I just knew it wasn’t going to work. Our architect (Eric Olsen) created this amazing design with sky lights that had a very open, airy and light feel, but once the new piece was installed it immediately felt dark, heavy and closed. I knew we had to change it. I had them recreate the makeup vanity but only keeping the bottom portion and leaving the top half open for an oversized mirror. My interior designer (Raili CA Design) suggested adding a really fun wallpaper and it made all the difference. I found this marble like wall paper and immediately knew it was the one!
I will say I’m pretty masculine when it comes to the majority of home decor but in my closet/vanity section I felt like it’s a place I was open to going a little more girly and feminine. I went with brass, faux fur and more dainty table top accessory styling….
I love These Glass Boxes and purchased them in two sizes (here’s a similar look from Amazon!). They’re pretty enough for tabletop display and functional too! I used one for products and fresh flowers and the other as a sunglass storage case.
I kept it pretty simple with some stacked books, an antiqued brass mirror (also love this similar one from Amazon), glass boxes, hat stand and acrylic picture frames.
Tabletop Styling
An oversized mirror (this one is 48 inches) and a fun stool were at the top of my list! A lot of you had asked about the paint color and it’s Benjamin Moore Wrought Iron (it’s more of a charcoal gray in person but shows slightly blue in these pics for some reason). As mentioned above we had the vanity desk custom built, but you can honestly recreate this look yourself whatever your space size is! Here are a few of my favorite ready-made desks and stools…
Recreate the Look
And that’s my new makeup vanity section! It truly turned our better than I could have imagined and i’m SO in love with it! There were definitely some headaches along the way but in the end I think the change fees turned out to be worth it!
Thank you for sharing this as I am currently redoing our master/bath/closet. Would you be able to share some tips or pics of how you organized your makeup and products in the drawers?
hi love yes!thanks for the rec…that post is already in the works! xo
So glad to read that you will have a post on storing your products and makeup. I struggle with figuring out the best way to keep it organized and off my vanity. Thank you! 🙏👏.
Loooove it!!!!
Such a beautiful, functional space!
Thanks so much Liz xo
It is absolutely a beauty! Since I am also one who loves to sit while applying makeup or doing hair this idea is superb. A little bummed I don’t have this room but I’ll post pic when I create my space.
Thanks babe! and cant wait to see yours too!
I love your vanity! So beautiful with the gold accents. Where did you find the vanity stool? I tried to click on the links you provided but it took me to Pinterest and I couldn’t see where it was purchased. Thank you!
hi babe this one is from target xo
Love what you did with the vanity. The details are on point! Thanks again for writing your posts. It’s greatly appreciated.
Very cute! Where did you find the hat stand? The one linked is different.
Hi babe that because i actually recommend the one I linked more. That is just a candlestick holder 😉 I used in the meantime while I waited for mine to be delivered. It’s actually too short and the hat come off occasionally so def recommend a real one xo
Hi Andee, how do you find these beautiful whites? Do you use the same white in every room? Or are you adjusting in each room? Trying to find a great white.
Hi love yes weve pretty much used the same white throughout the house. It’s Benjamin Moore Simply White
So you know what paint finish was used on the vanity? Thank you!
The finish or the color? The color is Benjamin Moore wrought iron xo
What is the finish of this paint color? Is it matte, satin, flat, semi-gloss? And do you know what kind of top coat they used to seal the paint with? I recently bought an old desk to turn into my vanity and I’m using yours as my inspiration piece!
Hi babe i’m actually not sure! It doesnt seem matte or gloss actually.
